National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME)NCME has reimagined its professional development effort, “Instructional Topics in Educational Measurement Series (ITEMS)”, and has created a professional development portal. Use this link to get to the portal, which contains all 45 previously released print articles in this series as well as an ever-growing series of free digital training workshops.
The portal contains all previously released print articles in this series as well as an ever-growing series of free digital training workshops. These are about 2 hours long, contain audio-narrated slides, embedded instructional videos, learning checks, data-driven activities with sample solutions, and video versions of the core content. They also come with a glossary, selected free resources, handouts with all printed slides, and two-page outlines, with the specific mixture depending on each topic. Best of all, they work on all common digital devices such as tablets, phones, laptops, and desktops. All modules are developed by established experts, often in collaboration with new voices in our field, who graciously donate their time to this effort. They cover topics in the areas of:
- Educational measurement
- Assessment development
- Interdisciplinary frontiers
- Assessment literacy
There are currently 10 digital modules in the portal with about 35+ to come over the next few years – we typically release one new module every 6 weeks. They are free to access by registering briefly within the site – the Elevate learning management system (LMS) – and then by either accessing each module individually or by signing up for the “All-access Pass” directly on the homepage. There are pointers to other resources in the portal as well along with news, FAQs, and team information.
