Creating a LibGuide

This guide will help you design an accessible, user-friendly LibGuide.

Best Practices

The purpose of best practice guidelines is to create consistency and improve usability, accessibility, and effectiveness of the Libraries' LibGuides. The guidelines add structure and conventions to aid our users of the LibGuides as a resource.

Consider the following questions:

  • Thinking as a reader, do our LibGuides as a whole project a coherent organization and structure?
  • Is it easy to navigate to the page you need or navigate within an individual page?

Why should I follow best practice guidelines?

Following best practices helps to create cohesive and accessible content across disciplines which allows users to easily navigate and comprehend the information they are seeing.

Our LibGuides, ultimately, are a Libraries publication, rather than personal research or teaching. They should reflect the institutional goals of the organization and Libraries' LibGuide services overall. New and existing guides will be reviewed regularly to make sure that they represent Libraries appropriately.

Please review the best practice pages for Content and Accessibility & Design before creating your LibGuide.
