Mendeley was founded in 2007 by Paul Foeckler, Victor Henning, and Jan Reichelt, PhD students in Germany. The software suite, which is now owned by Elsevier, is divided into two parts, a citation manager and a searchable database. The search function benefits from a robust filtering system, and articles can then be saved to your virtual "library" most have full text options available.

Profiles include academic affiliations and academic publications, from there you can join groups of scholars active on the platform and based on your tastes and research area mendeley will also recommend other articles for you to read based off those tastes.
