Podcasting

This guide provides resources for starting your own podcast and developing episodes.

Accessibilty

What Makes a Podcast Accessible?

  • A transcript, or a link to the transcript, is provided for every episode and is located in the same place as the episode.
    • Do not rely entirely on the transcription service associated with the recording, editing, or hosting platform. No matter the service, there are often errors. You have to manually go through and correct the transcripts. See below video for details on creating transcripts.
  • The website you host your podcast is accessible. This means it is screen reader friendly, descriptive ALT tags is used for anything visual, and it has readable fonts and colors. See Design Basics Libguide for accessible fonts, text, and colors.
  • If you used video, include captions. See below for video on accessible Closed Captioning.

Why Make a Podcast Accessible?

  • Transcription and descriptive ALT text ensures users with disabilities can access your content.
  • For those whom English is not their first language Transcripts and captions allow people to see the text for any clarification needed.
  • Words in your transcripts, and descriptive language used for your website and on your podcast hosting platforms, are used by search engine indexes for findability.
