Thank you for your interest in working with Purdue Libraries.

To apply for an undergraduate position in any of our campus library locations, we request that you email: libstudenthiring@purdue.edu and include the following information in your email:

  • Graduation year 
  • Current class schedule and other time commitments
  • A screenshot of your Federal Work Study availability, which you can view through MyPurdue in the Financial Aid tab

Once your application has been received your information will be sent to all Purdue Libraries student supervisors, if they are interested they will reach out to you directly.

Job Description

Part-time Student Library Assistant

Hours possible: up to 20 hours per week.  Starting at $12/ hr.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in Purdue University undergraduate level.
  • Office/ public service experience is highly desirable.  
  • Participation in the College Work Study Program is highly desirable.

Responsibilities: 
Responsibilities for a Purdue Libraries Assistant include (but are not limited to): book and periodicals check-in, circulation duties (shelving, holds, checking in and out materials), inventory duties (scanning, shelf reading), mail delivery and moving equipment and supplies, customer service duties at the library information desk (answering phones, providing guidance, directions and answering questions), opening and closing of the library on evenings and weekends, light cleaning, and special projects.

Additional Expectations:

  • Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends. 
  • Must be able to maintain schedules in a consistent manner.  
  • Must have the ability to work with faculty, staff and library patrons in a public service environment.  
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Each library location has specific duties based on the needs of each location. These duties can vary.

Do I have to have Federal Work Study to be hired for a position?

  • No, you do not have to have Federal Work Study, but it is preferred.

I have not heard back about my application?

  • A student supervisor will contact you as soon as possible. We do have limited positions available in the Libraries, so if you do not hear from us, please reapply next semester.

How many hours can I work with Purdue Libraries?

  • Student employees are able to work up to 20 hours per week.

What should I do as a graduate student?

  • If you are applying for a graduate assistantship, you don’t need to fill out the application. Graduate students should send their resume to libadmin@purdue.edu.
