Chemistry New Grad Student Orientation

This guide is intended to help orient new graduate students in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to the Purdue University Libraries

ChemDraw and Signals Notebook

Revvity has changed their license model for our access to ChemDraw and Signal.  Libraries administrators will now need to manually add users to the Revvity Signals licensing portal.  New ChemDraw and Signals users should send their name and e-mail address to Nathan Rupp in Purdue University Libraries at so that they can be added to the license portal. New accounts may take up to forty eight hours to be added to the licensing portal.  Instructors and lab managers can get their classes and labs enrolled by submitting an Excel file with the relevant information (3 columns: first name, last name, Purdue e-mail address) to Nathan Rupp.

If you were already in the system before the transition (end of February 2025), you should have already received an e-mail from the vendor with information about where to download the ChemDraw or Signals Notebook Standard Edition software.  If you did not, check your spam folders/filters for that e-mail.

The access link for Signals and ChemDraw, once you have an active license is here: https://purdue.signalsresearch2.revvitycloud.com.

MestReNova

MestRe Nova is a software package used for NMR data processing, simulation and analysis. It features 1D and 2D processing and analysis capabilities. It also includes a GC/MS module and an NMR Prediction module.

The Purdue Libraries has a campus license for MestRe Nova for Purdue faculty, staff, and students, who have a legitimate use.

To install and activate MestRe Nova, please follow these directions:

  1. Go to the following web site and download the version you require: http://mestrelab.com/download/mnova/, as well as the relevant plugins you might want to use. The basic NMR and MS plugins are required. The advanced plugins (RM, NMRP, Verify, and qNMR) are optional.
  2. Install the program and the appropriate plugins.
  3. Request a license file from the Chemistry liaison librarian. Please state your status (undegrad, grad, faculty, or staff), department, and a brief reason for wanting to use MestRe Nova.
  4. Activate the program using the license (.lic) file you receive, via the License Manager tool within MestRe Nova.

For MestRe Nova support, consult the following links:

PyMol

Purdue University has obtained a site license for use of the molecular graphics program PyMOL.

You may download the software via a link on the following page: http://pymol.org/dsc/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=start

You will also need a copy of the license file to activate PyMol.  It should also be linked from the download page, under "Existing Users."

Note: You must access this page from a computer on the Purdue network (wired or wifi).  The Purdue VPN is no longer an option for this.  Extensive documentation, tutorials, cheat sheets, and support can also be found at the above page.
