Applied Big Data Workshop: Volume

Volume in the CAM 2 Project

Big Data laboratories frequently deal with  high volumes of specific types of data. Data volume can influence programming decisions, storage decisions, and analytical techniques.

What is Volume?

Data at Rest - Terabytes to exabytes of existing data to process

Storage Options

3 types of storage for Big Data Projects:

  • cloud storage for the video feeds
  • onsite (in-lab) data storage
  • local servers

In addition you may need your own storage while at Purdue and elsewhere.  The Storage and Preservation table linked below will help you decide what is the right storage for you and your lab.  This table describes the following:

  • Purdue Research Repository
  • ITAP Research Data Depot
  • Dropbox
  • Purdue Boiler Backpack/Syncplicity
