Below is video tutorial on another method for making patches- in this tutorial the person also uses custom designs but the step-by-step process for setting up the hoop, stabilizer, and fabric is very helpful.
Embroidery on a T-Shirt
As the person in this video discusses, adding embroidery to a t-shirt is a more advanced project as t-shirt material is usually a knit fabric and it's thinner. It is recommended that you practice adding embroidery to woven fabrics before jumping into projects using knits.
