This section is a brief list of resources for AI images. This is not an endorsement for the use of AI image generative tools, but rather a source of information to critically engage with the technology. Please consult your instructor or journal for their generative AI usage policies.

AI generated images are not copyrightable.
Unless you own the copyright of the image(s) you are inputting to an AI generative model, using another creators’ images could be considered copyright infringement unless fair use applies.

Protect Images

Glaze
Created by a team from the University of Chicago, this tool makes pixel-level changes to images that work as a kind of cloak to confuse AI software trying to read them, but the changes are barely discernable to the people viewing the image.
Nightshade
From the creators of Glaze, Nightshade works to “poison” AI models that have been trained on images used without permission. Changes made to images are not typically perceptible to the viewer. When an AI text to image generator gets a prompt such as “cow” an image run through Nightshade might offer an image of something like a purse. This sabotages the training model system.

DALL-E 3
Updated version of DALL-E 2 available for use with ChatGPT Plus.

Both versions 2 and 3 require payment or a monthly subscription price.
Currently, there is an Artist and Creative Content Owner Opt Out form.

An AI tool for fashion, interior, and product designers to brainstorm and visualize concepts and ideas.

Midjourney
Images generated from texts and images. Utilizes text-based prompts with Discord bot commands.

Requires monthly or yearly subscription, available at different ranges.
Users must have a Discord account.
