  • PitchBook's particular strength is private market data -- startups, private equity and venture capital investors, angel investors, limited partners like foundations and sovereign wealth funds, and associated deals and funding rounds. 
    • Target investors for your ideas.
    • Discover companies backed by private equity, venture capital, and other private investors. 
  • PitchBook offers unique market research on trending areas attracting investors: swarm AI, 4D printing, ghost kitchens, etc.
  • PitchBook also provides information about public companies similar to other databases and is notable for its easy competitor comparisons. 
  • Purdue does not subscribe to the "Funds Analysis" content including all Morningstar reports covering public markets. See Purdue's separate access to Morningstar Investing Center.

Venture Capital and Private Equity

There are robust screening options including these examples:
  • "Screeners" > "Investors and Funds"
    • Use pre-built screens like “Top Seed Investors” and “PE Investors”
    • Build custom screens with filters like “Investor Locations” and “Fund Size”
    • Example need: "US-based venture capital investors with closed funds with stated preferences for the healthcare industry."
  • "Screeners" > "Companies and Deals"
    • Use pre-built screens like “Recent VC Exits” and “PE-Backed Companies”
    • Build custom screens with filters like “Deal Date” and “Deal Size”
    • Example need: "All private equity deals involving Japan-based companies since 2022."

Deals, Mergers and Acquisitions

There are robust screening options including these examples:

    • Use pre-built screens like “M&As” and “Recent VC Exits”

Market Research

Use the "Market Analysis" sub-menu on the left sidebar:
  • Analyst Workspaces: Trending market reports, market maps, and more including analysis of current VC, PE, and M&A contexts.
  • Analyst-Curated Verticals: Trending niche markets that span multiple industries: AI, clean energy, crypto, e-commerce, gaming....
  • Emerging Spaces: "New and disruptive markets, technologies, products, or services."
  • Market Size Estimates: The projected growth of a market gathered from a range of sources, presented in a visual format.
  • Market Maps: Learn about a market space or make a visual presentation.
Use the "Library" sub-menu on the left sidebar:
  • Research Center: PitchBook analyst reports on private market topics. Purdue does not subscribe to the Morningstar reports covering public markets. However, Purdue subscribes separately to Morningstar Investing Center.

Search company name or ticker:
  • Boards and Executives: Within a company, go to "Team" and "Board Members"
  • Capital Structure: Within a company, go to "Capital Structure"
  • ESG Data: Within a company, go to "Sustainability"
  • Earnings Call Transcripts: Within a company, go to "Transcripts"
  • Filings: Within a company, go to "Filings"
  • Financials -- Details, Ratios, Competitors:
    • Within a company, go to "Financials" to analyze details and ratios
    • Within a company, go to "Comps Analysis" and "Similar Companies" to analyze competitors
  • Patents: Within a company, go to "Patents"
  • Signals -- Growth, Website Visitors, etc: Within a company, go to "Signals"

Credit Research

Use the "LCD Credit Analysis" sub-menu on the left sidebar:
  • Credit News: "Real-time coverage of the US/European leveraged loan and high yield bond markets, from deal inception through the trading life of the debt, along with investment grade bond issuance, distressed debt, corporate bankruptcies, middle market transactions and CLO/fundraising. Also: trend analysis, weekly market wrap-ups, and monthly/quarterly analysis."
  • Credit Research: "Weekly, monthly, quarterly research detailing virtually every metric of the leveraged loan market, including structure, pricing, yield, volume, along with secondary market performance and LBO/private equity activity."

Plugins and Apps

Excel Plugin

Mobile Apps

Mobile apps are available for Android and iOS devices. GIven the complex nature of business interfaces like PitchBook, desktop use is encouraged. 

More Plugins and Apps

  • Additional extensions, plugins, etc. are available including for Chrome and PowerPoint.
  • While logged in, use the "My PitchBook" sub-menu on the left sidebar > "Plugins & Apps."
  • These can be powerful for individual user needs but add complexity.
