GIS Data Guide: Software

A concise list of important resources available to you on the web and at Purdue.

Campus Software

  • ESRI ArcGIS:
    Purdue has a site license for Esri's ArcGIS product. The software can be downloaded on any campus desktop computer. ArcGIS is also available on the ITaP WinHPC cluster.
    Purdue students can obtain a free 1-year ArcGIS Desktop software to be installed on their own computers. Please contact us for an authorization code.
    ERDAS IMAGINE is an imagery software package designed for image processing.
  • Exelis ENVI:
    ENVI software suite provides a variety of solutions for processing and analyzing geospatial imagery.
  • Trimble eCognition:
    eCognition is an advanced image analysis software for geospatial applications runing on Windows.
    The GeoSPHERIC package is an easy-to-use image processing and photogrammetric workstation for Microsoft Windows giving you complete control over your data. The package includes for Imagery products: GeoGenesis, IApioneer, OmniDem and FeatureXTract.
  • Purdue MultiSpec:
    MultiSpec is a freeware package developed at Purdue University. MultiSpec provides basic pattern recognition tools for remote sensing analysis.

  • QGIS:
    QGIS is a user friendly free and open source GIS desktop software. It runs on Linus, Unix, Mac OSX, Windows and Android.
  • Google Earth:
    Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographical information program.
    GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is a free and open source GIS software suite used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics and maps production, spatial modeling, and visualization.
  • uDig:
    uDig is an open source desktop application framework for GIS data access, editing, and viewing.
  • GeoServer:
    GeoServer is an open source server for sharing geospatial data.
