This guide is intended to provide non-partisan information and resources for voters in Indiana.  Whether this is your first time voting or your fifth, the goal of this guide is to help you to know key dates, voter's rights, and other helpful information for the upcoming election.

Important dates for voting in Indiana:

  • Statewide Voter Registration Deadline - October 7, 2024
  • Vote by Mail Application Deadline: October 24, 2024 at 11:59 PM (local prevailing time)
  • Absentee Ballot Deadline: received by CEB not later than 6 PM (local prevailing time), November 5, 2024, except for overseas voters (see below)
  • Vote In Person at the Clerk's Office from October 8, 2024, through NOON (local prevailing time), Monday, November 4, 2024
  • Traveling Board Application Deadline: NOON (local prevailing time), Monday, November 4, 2024
  • Military and Overseas

  • Vote by Mail - Application Deadline: October 24, 2024 at 11:59 PM, local prevailing time; Ballot Deadline: for all overseas voters, the absentee ballot envelope must be postmarked by November 5, 2024, and received by the county not later than NOON (local prevailing time), Friday, November 15, 2024
  • Vote by Email or Fax - Application deadline: NOON (local prevailing time), Monday, November 4, 2024; Ballot Deadline: emailed or faxed ballot must be received not later than 6 PM (local prevailing time), Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Indiana Voter ID Requirements

Specific forms of ID are not listed in statute. ID must be issued by the state of Indiana or the U.S. government and must show the following:

  • Name of individual to whom it was issued, which must conform to the individual's registration record.
  • Photo of the person to whom it was issued.
  • Expiration date (if it is expired, it must have an expiration date after the most recent general election; military IDs are exempted from the requirement that ID bear an expiration date).
  • Must be issued by the United States or the state of Indiana.

 

Voters who are unable or decline to produce proof of identification may vote a provisional ballot. The ballot is counted only if (1) the voter returns to the election board by noon on the Monday after the election and: (A) produces proof of identification; or (B) executes an affidavit stating that the voter cannot obtain proof of identification, because the voter: (i) is indigent; or (ii) has a religious objection to being photographed; and (2) the voter has not been challenged or required to vote a provisional ballot for any other reason.
