The American Historical Association is the largest professional organization serving historians in all fields and all professions. The AHA is a trusted voice advocating for history education, the professional work of historians, and the critical role of historical thinking in public life.

The American Society for Environmental History encourages scholarship on the interactions between humans and the natural world (or among humans and non-humans) through time. Membership of the society is markedly interdisciplinary and international, and the work of ASEH members ranges across, ages from crucial concerns of the present to the farthest reaches of human time.

NCAI was established in 1944 in response to the termination and assimilation policies the US government forced upon tribal governments in contradiction of their treaty rights and status as sovereign nations. To this day, protecting these inherent and legal rights remains the primary focus of NCAI.

The Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (NAISA) is an interdisciplinary, international membership-based organization, comprised of scholars working in the fields of Native American and Indigenous Studies, broadly defined.

The OAH is an association of historians dedicated to the promotion of teaching and scholarship about the history of the United States both before and after its formation as a nation-state. The organization pursues these goals by encouraging and supporting excellence in historic research, interpretation, and publication; advancing the teaching and practice of American history at all levels and in all settings; promoting the widest possible access to historical sources and scholarship and the widest possible discussion of historical questions and controversies, including advocacy for professional scholarly standards where appropriate; generating support for the preservation, dissemination, and exhibition of sources dealing with the history of the United States; and encouraging respectful and equitable treatment for all practitioners of history.

SACNAS – Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science – is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM.

The American Historical Review (AHR) is the official publication of the American Historical Association. Since 1895, the AHR has been the journal of record for the historical profession in the United States—the only journal that brings together scholarship from every major field of historical study. The AHR is published quarterly in March, June, September, and December. The AHR editorial office is housed at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Journal of American History is the leading scholarly publication in the field of American history and is well known as the major resource for the study, investigation, and teaching of our nation's past. Appearing quarterly since 1914—first as the Mississippi Valley Historical Review—the Journal has a distinguished history of its own, publishing many prize-winning and widely reprinted scholarly articles. The Journal also features historiographic essays and reviews of books, films, exhibitions, and websites. Its ongoing internationalization initiative places American history in a global context, and its Teaching the JAH project brings the latest scholarly research into the history classroom. The JAH Recent Scholarship bibliography is now available to OAH members as an online searchable database.

The major forum for scholarship on the Holocaust and other genocides, Holocaust and Genocide Studies is an international journal featuring research articles, interpretive essays, book reviews, a comprehensive bibliography of recently published relevant works in the social sciences and humanities, and an annual list of major research centers specializing in Holocaust studies. With content from the disciplines of history, literature, economics, religious studies, anthropology, political science, sociology, and others, Holocaust and Genocide Studies also prints work on other genocides and near-genocidal episodes. The journal is published three times a year in cooperation with Oxford University Press.

Speculum, an English-language quarterly founded in 1926, was the first journal in North America devoted to the Middle Ages. It is open to contributions in all disciplinary fields and methodologies studying the Middle Ages, a period that ranges from approximately 500 to 1500. European, Arabic, Byzantine, Hebrew, and Slavic studies are included. In keeping with the Medieval Academy of America’s goal of representing all fields of medieval studies, individual issues usually include articles on a variety of subjects, from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Articles on interdisciplinary topics or articles that tackle large interpretative questions, undertake the synthetic analysis of major methodologies, or consider newer theoretical approaches to medieval studies are encouraged. Authors should also consider the multidisciplinary audience of Speculum, should craft their material to appeal to a large audience of medievalists, and should provide sufficient context for readers who are not already experts in the subject matter of their articles.
