The Census Bureau produces many publications and data points chronicling the U.S. historical and contemporary demographic,  economic, & social development. These publications are available in paper, microfiche, CD-ROM, and the Internet. Many Census Bureau publications are accessible through the online catalog.

The principal index for U.S. Government Documents is the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications HSSE REF & Periodicals 016.353 Un36 and its also available online from 1994-present. U.S. Government publications from 1976-present can also be searched in the GPO Index on the Purdue Libraries Indexes page.  This Census Bureau resource explains why the Census is important.

GovInfo (Provides access to laws, legislation, and regulations on the Census Bureau).  Information on downloading Purdue Libraries ebooks can be found here  See United States Code Title 13 for federal Census laws. On March 26, 2018 the Commerce Dept. announces the reinstatement of a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. 13 USC 141(a) authorizes the Secretary of Commerce to obtain Census information as necessary, including a citizenship question.  The Census Bureau cannot share its information with other federal agencies such as ICE and the IRS.  Violators of this law face criminal penalties of up to and including five years in federal prison and $250,000 or both.
