Searching for Patents
To search for patents by an ME faculty member you can use the Derwent Innovations Index database located in the Purdue Libraries' A-Z Database List.

Make sure that you searching within the Derwent Innovations Index system, indicated at the top.

In the search bar, type the faculty member's last name, comma, the first letter of their first name with an asterisk. *
* Why are you using an asterisk? Locating patents by inventor names can be complex because most personal names are not unique, names may change over time, there may be cultural differences with name order, etc. In many databases an asterisk symbol * is a wildcard that will represent any group of characters, including no character.
Select "Inventor" in the drop-down menu to the right.

Click to add another field.
In the second search box type "Purdue ", then select "Assignee - Name Only" from the second drop-down menu on the right. This will limit your results to only those with "Purdue" in the assignee name. This is one strategy to make sure you are getting results from the correct individual. If you know of other organizations the individual is (or was) affiliated with (e.g. previous employers, etc), you can also try subsequent searches with those organization names in the "Assignee" field.

Now you will see a list of all of the patents affiliated with your ME faculty member! You can see your faculty member's name in the inventor row under the title.
