10:30-12:00 - Guest Speaker – John Erickson, Director of Public Information for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS).

This presentation will cover:

  • The mission of IDHS
  • Collaboration between IDHS and other federal agencies, Indiana emergency responders, and citizen groups
  • IDHS methods of disseminating official news, reports, publications, and statistics via traditional or social media
  • IDHS news libraries can use for library websites, programs, exhibits, and activities

1:00-2:30 - Webcast – "State Government Information and the Copyright Conundrum."

Copyright law has significant impact on the work of libraries, digital repositories, and even state agencies when dealing with digitizing and web archiving state government information. Free State Government Information (FSGI) http://stategov.freegovinfo.info/ has been steadily working to raise awareness and find pathways forward for policy change with regards to the copyright issue of state government publications.

This presentation  covers:

  • The  mission of FSGI and why they are tackling copyright issues with state government
  • Specific state government information projects that academic, state, and digital libraries are engaged in that are impacted by copyright
  • A way forward to address copyright policy in the states: Kyle Courtney’s 50 state survey of copyright policies, State Copyright Resource Center http://copyright.lib.harvard.edu/states/

10:00-11:30 Guest Speaker-Christine Eykhold Friesel.  Serves as Indiana Room Coordinator and has introduced Nonprofit Central a service addressing area organization's unique information needes.  In April 2015, the Library designed a new service model allowing Christine to focus on digital initiatives.  The Indiana room collects local government, historical, and genealogical information.  Session will include Indiana Room tour, a presentation, and discussion of ongoing projects, including the Monroe County Timeline.

     At the October meeting, Lou Malcomb made the following proposal to change Article III (Membership) in our Bylaws to
     offer lifetime membership to long-serving members.  This change has had some favorable responses, and we might be
     able to vote on it--with a quorum-and a bit of discussion.

Current Text:  Membership will consist of personal members.  Upon payment of annual dues, members receive the right to vote and participate in the business of INDIGO.

Ayres Tea Room where lunches start around $7.00 and the menu is on the web. Both restaurants are accessible via the Gov. Frank O'Bannon great hall so no museum admission fee is required. The Museum gift shop is also open. For a closer option, the Law School building first floor also offers a canteen with sandwiches, soups, and salads.
