3D Printing: FAQ

This guide will assist patrons who plan to use the 3D printing available in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size objects can be printed?
    • The Lulzbot TAZ6 print bed is 11"x11"x9.8"
  • Who can use the 3D printer?
    • Anyone who is affiliated with Purdue. 3D printing is not available for the general public.
  • What colors are available?
    • The library has a limited selection of colors (currently clear). If you wish to use a specific color, you can purchase your own spool of material & it will not count towards your 75 gram allotted print limit.
  • What type of software should I use?
    • Please see the Software tab. You can use any design software you like, but all files must be an updated .stl through the Cura Lulzbot Edition software.
  • Which file formats are accepted?
    • All files must be converted to the .stl file format within Cura. The software can convert .obj, .3ds & .ply into the appropriate .stl. 
  • How much does it cost?
    • We are currently piloting the 3D printing service, so there is no charge for prints (at the moment).
  • Whom should I contact for additional assistance?
